taco taco burrito burrito

Its sad how usually the highlight of any day involves food. This past Saturday I went to San Diego with some friends to check out Lucha Libre Taco Shop.

My friend Kenny and I are burrito buddies, always looking for new tortilla wrapped bundles of goodness. So when he saw this taco shop's Surfin' California burrito featured on Man vs. Food, he told me all about it and asked me to go try it with him. Apparently this glorious burrito holds grilled steak, French Fries, shrimp, avocado, pico de gallo, cheese and their "Super Secret" chipotle sauce. It sounded like a little too much for me, but I agreed to go, because I am always up for an adventure! So we ventured out early Saturday afternoon, mouths watering and tummies grumbling. Traffic was insane, but after almost three hours in the car, we made it.

I ordered a TJ Hot dog. I love these freaking hot dogs, BACON ON A HOT DOG??!!!! Sooooo good. And the onions and bell peppers make them THAT much more delicious. Anyway, this was the best TJ hot dog I've had in a long time. 5 stars for this bad boy!

After the hot dog, I got the Surf & Turf Taco. AMAZING. Marinated steak and shrimp in a taco was one of the best ideas ever conceived by a man! Topped with avocado slices, cheese, and their "Special Sauce", this was another Lucha Libre triumph. I love Mexican food, and while I'm not an expert, I'm super picky about it. Their menu has the ingredients of gourmet, but the flavor of authentic Mexican cuisine. DELICIOSO!!!

I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the place. While it is small, the vibrantly colored walls, luchador masks, and T.V.s playing old lucha libre films really made it worth the squeeze. They even have this special booth that you can reserve called the "Champion's Booth", complete with gold EVERYTHING!

I'm no food expert, but I give Lucha Libre 5 out of 5 stars (that's my food rating system). If you're ever in the Mission Hills area, I totally recommend it for tasty and affordable belly fillers! And if you're feeling extra bold, go decked out in your Luchador best and receive their Luchador discount!
